Following the Government’s announcement on the 4th January 2021 it has been advised that those patients considered at extremely high risk of developing complications of COVID 19 infection have been advised to shield.
If you were required to shield during the first lockdown you will automatically be included in the current shielding group.
There are a few exceptions as the criteria for extremely high risk patients has changed to include:
Patients with significant renal disease or requiring dialysis.
Adults with Down Syndrome
Some children who were previously considered extremely high risk have now been reviewed and now no longer need to shield.

At this stage the Government has said they will be writing to all patients in the shielding group with further guidance in the coming days and weeks.
We will update this page with more information as soon as it becomes available.
