General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
Broomhill & Lodge Moor Surgeries aim to provide a high level of patient centred care. In order to facilitate your care we maintain individual patient electronic records.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is an EU regulation that came into force in 2018.
The GDPR will replace the existing UK Data Protection Act 1998
This regulation relates to how all companies and organisations that manage your data act to maintain your privacy. This has implications for all health care providers such as ourselves.
Below you will see a number of our policies relating to the GDPR regulations. They are also available on request from our reception.
Statement of Intent for Online Access
Contractual requirements came into force from 1 April 2014 requiring that GP Practices should make available a statement of intent in relation to online service developments:
· Summary Care Record (SCR)
· GP to GP Record Transfers
· Patient Online Access to Their GP Record
· Data for commissioning and other secondary care purposes
Summary Care Record (SCR)
The aim of your Summary Care Record (SCR) is to enable medical staff treating you to have access to important information about you such as current medication and drug allergies.
They will not have access to your full medical records.
NHS England require practices to enable automated uploads of any changes to patient’s summary information, on a daily basis, to ensure the summary care record (SCR) is as accurate as possible.
You have the right to opt out of this service and if you wish to do so we have a protocol in place to enable you to record your preference. Please ask at reception or see our websites www.broomhillsurgery.co.uk or www.lodgemoorsurgery.co.uk
GP to GP Electronic Record Transfers
When you register with a new practice your medical records can now be transferred electronically from your previous GP using the GP2GP facility providing your previous GP is also part of the scheme.
With GP2GP record transfers your electronic record is transferred to your new practice much faster.
We are already utilising the GP2GP electronic record transfer system and send and receive records using this system.
Patient Online Access to Their GP Record
We currently have an online system to enable patients to book and cancel appointments online, request repeat prescriptions and view important information about drug allergies.
This function works using our clinical system SystmOne. It can be accessed via our websites or following this link.
If you would like to have access to our online system you will need to contact the surgery and obtain a registration form and code.
Patients will be able to use the NHS App or SystmOne online access AirMid App to access more detailed elements of their medical records such as recorded medical problems, blood test results, consultations, hospital letters and coded information.
We have a practice protocol in place if patients would like to have access to this additional information. You will be required to register using the NHS App or Airmid App.
Data for Commissioning and Other Secondary Care Purposes
NHS England have set up the care.data programme to enable them to extract information from your electronic medical records with a view to using this data to help plan health and social care in England.
The data will be extracted and linked to your NHS number, date of birth, gender and your postcode, but not your name.
This will then be stored in a database at the Health and Social Care Information Centre. It will predominantly be used by NHS England and the local commissioning teams to plan health services.
The information could also potentially be accessed by other organisations outside the NHS (such as for research purposes)
We have arrangements in place to allow patients to opt out of ‘care.data’ programme. For more information please contact the reception.
