Important Information Regarding Cervical Screening Changes
We have been advised by the Department for Health that from the 1st July 2025, routine cervical screening intervals will be extended from 3 to 5 years for patients aged 25-49 who test negative after attending cervical screening on or after this date.
The Human Papillomavirus (HPV) causes nearly all cervical cancers. Now that we have a better test for HPV, women and people with a cervix aged 25-49 years who test HPV negative, will be invited every 5 years, instead of every 3.
This is based on guidance form the UK National Screening Committee (UKNSC) Studies have shown that if a person tests negative for HPV, they are extremely unlikely to go on to develop cervical cancer within the next 10 years.
If your cervical screening shows you have HPV, you may be invited for more frequent screenings to check HPV has cleared and, if not, if any cell changes have developed.
This move brings England into line with Scotland and Wales which have introduced this change, and with women aged 50 – 64 who are already invited every 5 years.
The way people can receive cervical screening invitations and reminders has also changed as this is now possible via the NHS App. To receive these, please download the NHS app and make sure your notifications are switched on. Find out more https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-app If you don’t wish to use the App, we’ll attempt to contact you by text message or letter so, don’t worry, you won’t miss an invitation. See Frequently Asked Questions for more information or visit Cancer Research UK’s website.

Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) For Weight Loss - Update
You may have seen in the news that NHS England has announced that the weight loss injection Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) is now available for patients to be prescribed by their GP.
It is important to note that in Sheffield, the Intergrated Care Board (ICB) have made the decision that at this time it can not be prescribed until they have developed the appropriate primary care pathways and have the required wrap around support in place.
AS SUCH - PLEASE DO NOT CONTACT THE SURGERY AT THE CURRENT TIME TO REQUEST A PRESCRIPTION FOR TIRZEPATIDE (MOUNJARO)
We will update our website with more information as it becomes available.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO CAME TO OUR S10 TOGETHER EVENT!
On Wednesday 5th March, along with our colleagues from Crookes Medical Practice and Selborne Road Medical Centre, we welcomed over 300 of our patients to an afternoon at St Columba church.
Patients attending met with many local community providers such as Hallam Bowls Club, Help the Aged, Broomhill Library, The Allotment Society, The Community Wellness Services and many more. They found out about local groups and activities they could engage with and many were surprised at the wide range of opportunities available, free of charge and on their doorstep.
In addition attendees enjoyed a free sociable café with tea, coffee and cakes (most of which were made by our own teams) and were served by the Doctors and other members of the practice teams.
All of your feedback was very positive with people saying they had no idea that so much was available to them in their own community. We think the main achievement was that people made new friends and reunited with old ones and had a pleasant afternoon out.
If you enjoyed the event and would like to participate in planning and delivering another one, or if you would like to stay updated about any plans the practice has, please contact helen.foster12@nhs.net
